Some brick and mortar stores stock them on shelves with poor lighting and no water for weeks. In those cases, the plants might be too weak to save. I have seen live Venus flytraps sold in hardware and grocery stores, like Home Depot and Walmart. They usually only carry one kind, but it is great to be able to see the plant before you buy it. Venus flytraps require very high light level to thrive. Natural sunlight is best, or failing that, reallt intense full-spectrum artificial light.

After seeing this thread I have been thinking of making a vivarium with vft's and maybe some other carnivores plants. I would also like to add some frogs into mix..I wonder though if the vft's will eat the frogs. That would be some weird stuff if a plant could catch and eat a frog..
